A Creative Environment For Acquiring Pre-Engineering Skills
Bridge Builder is a unique computer-aided design package that brings a real life engineering problem into the classroom for hands-on problem solving. Students are challenged to apply their math and science skills to design a bridge capable of supporting a 40 ton. Bridge Builder teaches engineering feel through experimentation. The program incorporates a custom computer-aided design (CAD+) system with editing features such as joint shifts and deletes, member deletes, size changes and strength inquires. A friendly user interface combined with entertaining animation make Bridge Builder appropriate for grades 6-12. (Brochures)

Mr. Rescinito, physics teacher at Northern Cambria High School, and his students attribute the great success they had at their annual physics Olympiad bridge building contest to their use of Bridge Builder. The students first designed their best bridge on the computer, printed it out on graph paper, then constructed the bridge of balsa wood. The average weight held by the bridges broke the record weight of 116 lbs. with a new record being set of 341 lbs.!
